Planting & Care Guide

  • IMPORTANT!  If you can’t install your new plant right away, store in a sheltered area and water daily.

  • Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the potted plant
  • Take plant out of container and loosen the roots
  • Center plant in hole leaving the top 1-2” of the plant above ground level
  • Fill in area around plant with a mixture of fresh topsoil and peatmoss or compost
  • Use hose/water to pack dirt in and around plant.  Let settle and add more dirt if necessary
  • Add mulch around new plant
  • Hand water 2-4 times a week depending on weather or precipitation
  • (water method:  Turn on the hose to a trickle and let it water each plant for 10-20 minutes depending on size.  Set a timer to remind you to move the hose)
  • It is important to hand water for the first growing season.  Once the deep feeder roots are established, the plants should require minimal watering.
  • Prune or maintenance plants at least one time per season.  Some plants grow faster and require more attention.  Perennials and grasses need to be cut back to the ground in the fall.
  • Protect your investment and watch it grow!
